Alford Hester, 82, of Eastover, passed away on Saturday, March 23, 2019. He was preceded in death by his parents: Craven and Lessie Hester and son: Billy Lee Hester. Alford leaves behind his loving wife: Mary Rich Hester of the home; two sons: Dan Hester (Marcia) of Virginia, Kenny Hester (Dena) of Elizabethtown; one daughter: Debbie H. Hammonds (Andrew) of Lumberton; three step-daughters: Joyce Gonzalez (Ron) of Fayetteville, Gloria Cottrell (Lee) of White Lake and Teresa Garris (Robert) of Florence, SC; two sisters: Lula Mae Edwards of Bladenboro, Ruby Edwards of Elizabethtown; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Sergeant First Class Alford Hester was a retired Army veteran with 21 years of military service. He was awarded The Bronze Star Medal for meritorious achievement in ground operations against hostile forces. Mr. Hester also served with distinction on behalf of the Armed Forces of the United States at the Inauguration of President Jimmy Carter on January 20, 1977.
The family will receive friends from 1-3pm on Thursday, March 28th at Bladen Gaskins Funeral Home in Elizabethtown with a funeral service at 3pm. Rev. Randy Andrews will be officiating services. Burial will be held in the Bladen Memorials Gardens in Elizabethtown.
