Angus Begley

November 19, 1930 — November 10, 2015

Angus Anthony Begley, 84, passed away on November 10, 2015. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hargis and Bertha Begley; his wife, Lois Gail Thomas Begley; and brother, Brutus Begley. He is survived by his brother, Marcus Begley of Richmond, Ohio, and his sister, Christine Brummett of Sunset Beach.

Begley died while in hospice care in Georgetown, South Carolina; he had formerly resided in Bladenboro North Carolina; Orlando, Florida; and Cold Springs, Kentucky.

"Tony" Begley, as he was known to his close friends, or "Coach" Begley, as he was known to his many students, was a man who devoted his life to education and to the pupils who were in his care over the years. He began his career in Bladenboro, North Carolina, where he worked for five years as a coach for men's basketball and baseball teams; he was also a classroom instructor.

During those five years in Bladen County, he touched the lives of numerous young men; he made an impact which has lasted for more than fifty years, shaping and molding athletes into men of high moral character. "Coach" Begley loved his students and his players; he was loved and respected in return.

Upon leaving Bladen County, North Carolina, Begley moved to the Orlando, Florida, area and became a coach and professor at Seminole Junior College where he continued to influence the development of young people until his retirement. He was a role model for generations of young people, a man who is remembered with love and admiration by many.

Begley enjoyed a wide variety of outdoor sports; he was an avid fisherman and deep sea diver, a man who loved the water for his entire life. Rivers, streams, lakes, oceans-he loved them all. He was a licensed Captain for many years. Begley also loved planes and was a licensed and accomplished pilot. Over the years, he owned several planes and flew them all over the East Coast, including Bladen County when he visited the area from Florida.

Begley was also an active and proud Shriner who attained the highest rank in that organization: a 32nd Degree Shriner. He participated in many of the organization's projects over the years. Begley proudly served his country and was a Veteran of the Navy.

A Memorial Service will be held Friday, November 13, 2015, from 6:00 p. m. until 8 p. m at Bladen-Gaskins Funeral Home in Bladen County, North Carolina.
