Barbara Rice

Barbara Jean Bordeaux Rice died peacefully on Monday, October 19, 2015 at the age of 77. Born to Jim Bordeaux and Nellie Collum Bordeaux, she was one of five children. She was preceded in death by a brother, Julius Thomas Bordeaux (Tommy); her parents Jim and Nellie Bordeaux; her husband, A. Elwood Rice; son, Dewitt Rice; brothers, Jimmy Dale Bordeaux and Lewis Dan Bordeaux. Barbara is survived by two children, Winford Elwood Rice, Debra Lynn Rice Smith; daughter-in-law, Suzanne B. Rice and one son-in law, Douglas Gene Smith; eight grandchildren, Pamela Marie Rice, Travis Rice, Kendall Smith, Heather Smith, Derrick Rice, Lindsey Rice, Westlee Rice and Kevin Rice.

She was a faithful wife and loving Mother. She began working at Dublin School in the cafeteria in May, 1972 until June of 1976. She was transferred to Bladen Elementary in 1976 which became Bladen Middle and is now Elizabethtown Middle, until November 1998 at which time she retired from the Board of Education in November 1, 1998 after 26 years of services. The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 22, 2015 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Dublin First Baptist Church. Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. at Dublin First Baptist Church with the Rev. Cameron McGill, Rev. Warren Hill, and the Rev. Devon Varmun officiating. Burial will follow at Tatum Cemetery in Dublin, NC
