Betty Ruth Singletary Hester, 83, of Whiteville went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 18, 2024, while at Lower Cape Fear Lifecare Angel House in Whiteville.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Clinton Singletary and Delia Baxley Singletary, her beloved husband Michael Wayne Hester and her siblings. Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Vince Gerald Hester (Clark Vereen) of Myrtle Beach, Wayne Hester (Beverly) of Bladenboro, daughters, Rose H. Davenport (Gary) of Lumberton, Margie H. Lawson (Randy) of Lumberton, Cheryl H. Noble (Wendell) of Whiteville, and Betty Jo Hinson of Myrtle Beach, three sisters, Opal Bass of Hickory, Loriane Layton of High Point, and Estelle Singletary of Lumberton, ten grandchildren, Michael Dowless, April Charland (Brian), A.J. Kinlaw, Blake Lawson, Daniel Lewis, Santana Noble, Caroline Hester, Beth Ann Hester, Hunter Hester, and Ivy Hinson, and six great grandchildren.
Betty was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved her family dearly and spent her life letting them know it, always providing what they needed and covering them in prayers daily. Betty loved to keep an immaculate home, cooking for her family, baking cakes, dancing, and going to the beach. She always dressed for the occasion whether staying in or going out and always shining. She will forever be remembered for the unconditional love and care given to all those she cherished.
The family will receive friends from 3-4 pm on Sunday, April 21, 2024, at White Oak Freewill Baptist Church in Bladenboro followed by a funeral service at 4 pm with the Reverend Bobby Carden and Reverend Brian Charland officiating. There will be a private burial.
At other times, the family will receive friends at the home of Rose and Gary Davenport, 87 Brown Stone Drive, Lumberton, NC 28360.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 206 Warrior Trail Whiteville, NC 28472 or Columbus County Dept. of Aging Meals on Wheels, 827 Washington Street, Whiteville, NC 28472.
