Billy James Simmons, 79, of Elizabethtown entered into eternal rest Monday, October 12, 2009. He was born on August 8, 1930 in Bladen County to the late Gusta Floyd and Nettie Watts Simmons.
Billy was a veteran of the US Air Force and served in the Korean War. He was a long time Sunday School Superintendent and Sunday School Teacher at Wesley\\'s Chapel United Methodist Church. He was also an avid wood craftsman.
Billy was predeceased by his parents; two brothers, Grady L. Simmons and G.F. Simmons and one sister, Kate Simmons Davis.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 13, 2009 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at Bladen-Gaskins Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at 11:00 am at Wesley\\'s Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Eckie Lancaster and Rev. Rusty Willis officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred Sampson Simmons of the home; three daughters, Gayla S. Collins and husband Mitch of Elizabethtown, Sharon Simmons of Myrtle Beach, SC and Holly Simmons of Raleigh, NC; one brother, Carlton S. \\"Bobby\\" Simmons of Elizabethtown; one sister, Eloise Simmons Johnson of Elizabethtown; one grandson, Ryan Collins of Elizabethtown.
In lieu of flowers memorial may be made to Community Home Care and Hospice, 411 S. Poplar Street, Elizabethtown, NC 28337 or Wesley\\'s Chapel United Methodist Church, 2409 Peanut Road, Elizabethtown, NC 28337.
