Brenda Gooden

Brenda Lee Haire Gooden, 73, of Elizabethtown went home to be with the Lord on September 27, 2017. She is preceded in death by her father James Lewis Haire, her mother Evelyn Haire King and brother James Lewis Haire Jr. Brenda leaves to cherish her memory, husband Kent Gooden of the home, daughter Kimberlee Gooden White and husband De of Elizabethtown, sister Faye Fenegan and husband Willard of Winston Salem, grandchildren: Megan, Anna Kate, and Cameron, a special aunt Elma Lee Singletary, niece Sheila Ray and husband Rich, sisters-in-law: Jeannie Upton and husband Don of Charlotte and Kay Morgan and husband Bernie of Wrightsville Beach .

Brenda was born on July 1, 1944. She was married to her highschool sweetheart for 50 years. Brenda was a dedicated member of Wesley's Chapel United Methodist where she was Charity Kids Youth Director for many years and involved in Marvin Daniel's Sunday school class, UMW, and the choir. She enjoyed serving her community as SuperClover 4H club leader, DAR officer and UDC member. She participated in Relay for Life and East Bladen Booster Club. Brenda retired from the NC Cooperative Extension. She always had a project she was working on.

Brenda loved her family and enjoyed being with her grandchildren. She loved her friends as she never met a stranger. Her encouraging words will be remembered by all who knew her. Brenda "Una" will be greatly missed.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, September 30, 2017 at 2 pm at Wesleys Chapel UMC in Elizabethtown followed by burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Darrell Copeland and Rev. Eckie Lancaster will be officiating the services. The family will receive friends after the services in the Multipurpose Building at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Wesley's Chapel United Methodist Church, Bladen We Care, or East Bladen Booster Club.
