Bruce Barbour, of Elizabethtown,, 76, United States Army Veteran passed away on Friday, January 26, 2024 at his home.
Bruce joined the service in 1967 and served two tours in Vietnam. He was awarded the National Defense Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with three Bronze Stars and the Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Device. He was a member of the Elizabethtown Kiwanas Club and a Lifetime member of the VFW. He was an avid collector of antique Military memorabilia and had a passion for antique cars. Bruce loved this country and was a true American until the day he died. He also loved food and was a frequent customer of several local restaurants on a regular basis. Folks enjoyed running into him because he always had a handshake to offer and a great story to tell. He will always be remembered for his dedication to his country and courteous nature to everyone he met.
Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Joseph Barbour, Jr. and Mittie Agnes McDuffie Barbour and one sister, Patricia Barbour Thompson. He is survived by his three first cousins, Walter McDuffie (Diane), Mike Gooden (Francis) and Steve Gooden (Ruth) along with many cousins and loving friends.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2024 at 11:00 am at Elizabethtown Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Dayton Wilson officiating. Burial will follow the services in the Elizabethtown City Cemetery.
In lieu of food or donations for family, the family request your donations be sent to the Bladen Crisis Food Bank in Elizabethtown.
