Carol Carter Sykes

Carol Carter Sykes, 75, of Bladenboro went to her eternal home on Sunday, July 2, 2023. She was born and raised in Bladen County, the daughter of the late Harvey Carter and Thelma Thompson Carter Wiederspahn.

 She was preceded in death by her parents, stepfather, Clarence Wiederspahn, and siblings, Horace Carter, Don Carter, and Irene Adams. Left to cherish her memory are her beloved husband of 60 years, Earl Franklin Sykes Sr. of the home, son Junior Sykes (Marie) of Bladenboro, daughters Laura Sykes Hickman (Donald), Marie Sykes Chavis (Phil), both of Bladenboro, brother Steve Carter (Rosemarie) of North Augusta, SC, sister Louise McRoberts (Danny) of Bladenboro, sister-in-law Gayle Weeks of Hephzibah, GA,  eight grandchildren Kyle Hickman (Hannah), Austin Sykes, Logan Sykes, Payton Chavis, Chad Chavis (Patty), Kendall Dove, Danielle Tew (Tyler), and Jenna Tatum (Kyle), and eight great grandchildren Karleigh Hickman, Grayson Sykes, Willow Sykes, Raylon Sykes, Isabella Chavis, Madisyn Butler, Averie Tew and Walker Tew.

Carol was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She adored her family and her church, Butters Baptist. She loved cooking meals for her family and was well known for her famous homemade biscuits. She also enjoyed bowling, shopping, getting manicures and pedicures.  Carol will be dearly missed for her generosity and love shared with everyone she encountered.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Wednesday, July 5, 2023 at the Bladen Gaskins Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. A 2:00 pm funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 6^th at the Butters Baptist Church in Bladenboro with the Reverend Charleston Guyton officiating. A burial will follow the service in the Singletary Cemetery in Butters.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of Lower Cape Fear Hospice Lifecare Center for the love and care administered during Carol's illness.
