Catherine Register

Catherine Heath Register, age 77, of Elizabethtown left us to be with her heavenly father Thursday, January 8, 2015
while in residence at Lower Cape Fear Hospice. She is preceded in death by her parents George and Nora Heath, her husband, Jerry Register, one sister, Bonnie Wilson and one brother, Daniel Heath. Survivors include her three sons: Jerold "Jay" Register and wife Linda of Virginia Beach, VA, Dr. Christopher Heath Register and wife Amy of Pawleys Island, SC, and Erik Craig Register and fiancé Allyson Harnaha of Pittsburgh, PA, one daughter, Lisa Register McKellar of Jacksonville, NC, eight grandchildren: Mary Matthews, Joshua Matthews, Katie Matthews, Andrew Matthews, Hannah McKellar, Sydney Register, Clayton Register, and Jerold Register, six great grandchildren: Devon, Sophia, Layla, Landyn, Dylan, and Lilly Grace and one precious cat, Tazzie Belle.

Cathy was born in McRae, GA on December 8, 1937. She moved to Jacksonville, FL where she would meet the love of her life, Jerry Register at a USO dance. A quick engagement ensued and Cathy relocated to Elizabethtown, NC where she would live a life fulfilled by raising her family and serving her community. In her early working years, she was employed as a legal secretary for the Honorable Giles Clark. She moved on in 1970 to work for 36 years for the USDA, Rural Development office where she reluctantly retired in 2006 as a MFH, Loan Specialist. Cathy spent her retirement years caring for her beloved husband, enjoying her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren; serving her country as a member of the Ladies Auxiliary for VFW Post 8063 and enjoying the comradery of her many cherished friends and church family. She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church.

The family will receive friends from 4-6 pm Saturday, January 10, 2015 at Bladen Gaskins Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. A graveside service will be held at 3 pm on Sunday, January 11, 2015 at Elizabethtown Cemetery with Rev. Neil Smith and Rev. Jay Winston officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Bladen County Animal Shelter.
