Cathy Hughes Freeman, 72, of Bladenboro went home to be with the Lord on Monday, September 27, 2021, at Cape Fear Valley Hospital in Fayetteville. She leaves behind her husband, Milton Ray “Bud” Freeman of the home, son Teddy Freeman and wife Charlotte of Lumberton, daughter Pam Smith and husband Anthony of Lumberton, five grandchildren, Aaron Smith, Meaghan Sampson and husband Justice, Xanna Freeman, Adalyn Smith, and Greyson Freeman, two brothers Donald Hughes and Paul Hughes, four sisters, Libby King, Cindy Locklear, Barbara Hester, and Janet Hughes, and a host of nieces and nephews. Cathy was preceded in death by her parents, Fonzie and Aline Hughes, biological parents Earl and Hazel Hughes, one sister Evelyn Hughes, and three brothers, R.D. Hughes, Walter Hughes, and Ronnie Hughes.
Cathy was a loving, devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was all about her family and Sunday meals together. Cathy loved the Lord, going to church and serving others. She was always making homemade bread and gifts to give away. She loved to travel to the mountains, go camping and kayaking with her family and could often be seen strolling around the neighborhood in the golf cart with her fur baby Mia. Cathy will be remembered most for her compassion and her great sense of humor.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 pm on Friday, October 1, 2021, at the Bladenboro Chapel of Bladen Gaskins. A funeral will be held on Saturday, October 2, 2021, at 3 pm at the First Street True Holiness Church, 902 East 1st Street in Lumberton. Rev. Teddy Freeman and Rev. Aaron Smith will be officiating. Burial will follow the services in the Lewis Cemetery in Bladenboro. All attendees are asked to wear masks.
