Charles Tedder

April 22, 1944 — June 9, 2009

Charles Wayne Tedder, Sr., age 65, of 122 Cape Owen Manor,Elizabethtown entered into eternal rest Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice Center of Whiteville. He was born on April 22, 1944 in Columbus County. Mr. Tedder was preceded in death by his parents, Julius and Magdelene Rich Tedder and two brothers Dean and Eugene.

Mr. Tedder was a member of Elizabethtown Presbyterian Church. He attended Campbell University and graduated from UNC-Pembroke in 1967. He received his Masters in Education from East Carolina University. As an educator for Bladen County Schools for more than 30 years, he served as principal at Hickory Grove Elementary School, Tarheel School and East Bladen High School. He was named Wachovia Principal of the Year in 1994.

His dedication as an educator touched many lives both in and out of Bladen County. Mr. Tedder wanted to help others by serving on and for various committees and organizations in his community. Those who knew him well also very much appreciated his love of fishing.



He is survived by: his wife, Joyce Baldwin Tedder of the home; one son, Charles "Chuck" Wayne Tedder, Jr. of Elizabethtown; two daughters; Joy Thornton and husband Tracey of Clinton, Brandi DeVane and husband Chad of Elizabethtown; two sisters, Shirley Burroughs and husband Willis of Williams Township and Judy Hawley and husband David of Hope Mills; one sister-in-aw, Ellen Tedder of Hamlet; and five grandchildren, the joys of his live, Maria and Britt Thornton, and Hannah, Carleigh, and Miriam DeVane.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, June 10, 2009 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at Bladen-Gaskins Funeral Home, and at other times at the home of his daughter, Brandi DeVane of Elizabethtown.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 11, 2009 at 3:00 pm at Elizabethtown Presbyterian Church with Dr. Bill Young officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Horeb Cemetery.
