Clarie Dexter (Junior) White, 82, of Chadbourn, NC, after a period of declining health, passed away at home, Friday, April 28, 2006. Mr. White was born January 12, 1924, in Town Creek, Brunswick County, NC., to Clarie Dexter White, Sr. and Amma Gurganious.
Mr. White was raised on a farm in the Montague community of Pender County near the homeplace of his parents. He came to Columbus County in the early 1940\\'s where he first worked on the farm of Alvie Smith on Honey Hill Road in Hallsboro. While working on the Smith farm, he met his first wife, Mary Sadler Miller (daughter of Benjamin Abner Miller and Nancy Bogan Holcomb) and they were married in 1945. Subsequent to farm life, Mr. White worked at the shipyard in Newport News, Virginia as a pipefitter. Work permitting, he spent weekends at home with his family in Hallsboro and stayed during the week in Newport News. He went to work for Dupont in Brunswick County and retired from Dupont. After retirement from Dupont, Mr. White resumed his love of the soil and as long as his health permitted, he remained active by growing corn and grinding meal for family and friends.
Mr. White was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Aubrey Dexter White in 1921; a sister, Susan Eulalia White in 1922; a sister Annie Katherine White in 1931; a daughter, Tressie Lorraine White in 1956; a brother, Daniel Barlow White in 1986; a brother, Samuel Spergon White in 1998. His first wife, Mary Sadler Miller, died in 1981.
He is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Farry Gertrude Smith of Chadbourn, his children, Marion McWhorter of Onalaska, Texas; Phillip Charles White of Wilmington; Nancy White King Pearsall of Riegelwood; Larry Dean White of Wilmington; Claire McQueen of Whiteville; Beverly Larue White of Hallsboro; Penny Kay Lynn of Clarkton; Tammy Sue Young of Hallsboro; Sandy Benjamin White of Salisbury; 2 stepchildren, Paul Smith of Whiteville; Susie Lee of Bladenboro, brother, James David White of Leland; 23 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren, nephews and nieces, 3 great great grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, and 1 step great grandchild.
Mr. White was a member of the Church of Christ in Shallotte. He was a kind and gentle man and had a knack for making one feel at home regardless of the circumstances. He will be missed as a great husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend to all that knew him.
