Reverend Clyde Weldon Coates, Jr. age 85 of Clarkton, died Saturday, September 5, 2015 at New Hanover Medical Center. He is preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Clyde Weldon Coates, Sr. and Ada Carter Coates; grandson, Christopher Wayne Coates; step-mother, Eula Parker Coates; brother, Danny Cleveland Coates and sister, Ruby McCormick. He is survived by his wife, Bessie Hyatt Coates; children, Phyllis and Ricky Strickland of Lisbon, Wayne Coates of Greenville, Candy and Troy Mitchell of Charlotte, Ricky and Barbara Coates of Calhoun, GA, Debbie and Steve Scott of Winston-Salem, Marty and Bridgette Coates of Florence, SC, Randy and Kathy Coates of Clarkton, Phillip and Jaymie Coates of Rocky Mount; grandchildren, Ricky Darrell Strickland and wife Allison, Austin Strickland, Jaimie Lilley and husband Mark, Stefanie Coates, Ricky Coates, Luke Coates, Rachel Coates, Meagan Phillips and husband Ryan, Tyler Scott, Andy Coates and wife Madison, Alex Coates, Ashtyn Coates and Cassidy Coates; great grandchildren, Katie Strickland, Joshua Strickland, Riley Phillips, Abby Phillips, Charlotte Phillips and Selah Lilley; siblings, Edna Carter, Weldon Coates and wife Judy, Geraldine Tyndell and husband Jerry, Wilma Capps and husband Michael, Vickie Leonard and husband Gary, Larry Carter and wife Beverly, Gladys Johnson and husband Val, Ernie Hyatt and wife Cindy, Frances Alford and Suzie Weatherford; and a special niece, Linda Rogers and husband Eugene.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 6, 2015 from 4:00 to 6:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall at New Center Baptist Church. A service will follow at 7:00 p.m. officiated by Rev. Phillip Coates, Dr. Mac Roberts, Rev. Kevin Kinlaw and Rev. Bruce Cannon.
