Conrad “Billy” Edwards Jr., 68, U.S. Army Veteran, of Bladenboro went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 17, 2022 while at Lower Cape Fear Hospice in Whiteville. He was preceded in death by his parents, Conrad Bill Edwards Sr. and Alice Willoughby Edwards. Billy leaves behind his loving wife, Debbie Edwards of the home, three sons, Bill Edwards (Miranda) of Whiteville, Chad Edwards of Kernersville, and Shane Edwards (Dana) of Kernersville, one brother Tony Edwards of Kernersville, six grandchildren, Veyda Edwards, Haley Atkinson, Brooklyn Edwards, Peyton Edwards, Zack Edwards and Ty Edwards, and his furry best friend, Bentley.
Billy loved the Lord, his family, his church, and his country. He was known to most as “Pepa”, but he was often mistaken for “Uncle SI” when out in public. Folks would enjoy stopping him for a chance to snap a photo because he favored the Duck Dynasty guy so much. Billy always got a kick out of it. He served in the 82nd Airborne with the United States Army from 1972-1978. After his tour in service, he and his wife Debbie settled in Bladenboro to raise their wonderful family. Billy was a hard worker who loved his job. He also enjoyed helping others in need. He would often take off from his job to help the Bladenboro Benefit Committee fix meals to help needy families in the community. Billy also served on the kitchen committee during vacation bible school with his home church, Grace Baptist, every year. He was a devoted Christian, brother, husband, daddy and Pepa with a heart of gold. He left a legacy of what it truly means to have a servant’s heart.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Friday, August 19th at the Bladenboro Chapel of Bladen Gaskins in Bladenboro. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 20th at 11:00 am at Grace Baptist Church in Bladenboro with Pastor Arthur Smith officiating. Burial will follow the services in the Bladen Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Elizabethtown.
