David Mitchell Tatum, age 55, of Tar Heel passed away Monday, November 5, 2012. David was Lieutenant with White Oak Fire Department. He was a Captain of Tar Heel Fire Department, EMT of Tar Heel Rescue, and president of Bladen County Fire Fighter Association. In 2006, he was Fire Fighter of the Year in Dublin. In 2011, he was Fire Fighter of the Year in White Oak. He dedicated all his time to helping others in need.
He was preceded in death by his father, William Allen Tatum, Sr.
He is survived by his wife, Regina Tatum \\"Ms. Boots\\" of the home; his mother, Virginia Tatum of Dublin; two sons, David Tatum Jr. of Elizabethtown and Chris Tatum of Fort Mills, SC; three step-children, Thomas Layton of Burgaw, Michelle Brown of Chesapeake, VA and Lisa Mahoney of Chesapeake, VA; two brothers, William Tatum Jr. and Kenny Tatum, Sr. both of Dublin; and fifteen grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Friday, November 9, 2012 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Bladen-Gaskins Funeral Home. Services will be Saturday, November 10, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at White Oak Baptist Church with Rev. Danny Lewis and Rev. Lamout Hemminger. Burial will follow in the Grimes Tatum Cemetery.
