David H. Wilson, 61 of Elizabethtown left his earthly home on Tuesday, March 26, 2024 and went home to Heaven to join his loved ones. His family, although heartbroken at his absence take comfort in knowing that he is at rest in Jesus, free from the cares of the world and no longer in pain.
David was a graduate of Lumberton Jr.-Sr. High School where he was an excellent student. He was involved in many activities and had many friends who loved and cared for him. He attended UNCW after graduation and later became employed with Goodyear of Fayetteville (Kelly Springfield), where he worked until he retired. He began as a tire builder and was later promoted to Shift Supervisor. He was a hard working and dedicated employee and a wonderful provider for his family. His dedication and vast knowledge were recognized by his fellow coworkers and supervisors.
David had an easy going way and was a man of few words but once he spoke you knew he meant what he said. His daughter, Sarah remembers asking for a black lab puppy one evening and within the next couple of days her daddy returned home from work with a puppy for her just as he promised. The children recalled with a laugh, riding his lawn mower around and said he grew tired of it always being out of gas. So, for Christmas he bought them a go cart to ride instead of the mower. David and his brother Joel both worked after school with Currie Chainsaw in Lumberton. The business eventually sponsored David in Dirt Bike racing competitions. So, it was no surprise that he later bought his children their own dirt bikes and taught them how to ride. He enjoyed his children and spent many hours with them doing the things that they loved, including baseball games, school activities and many other things throughout their childhood. He always encouraged them to work hard and do their best. David was blessed in being able to watch them excel and do well in life. He was very proud of them both.
He had a number of hobbies that he dearly loved including gardening, fishing with his kids, watching NASCAR and his beloved team, the Washington Redskins. He never missed a race if Dale Earnhardt was racing. David will truly be missed by all who loved him and knew him. His legacy will live on in the hearts and memories of his children, family and all of his friends.
David is survived by his parents, Gideon and Janice Griffin Wilson of Hallsboro; son, Jonathan Wilson of White Oak; daughter, Sarah Underwood and husband Kyle of Tar Heel; brother, Joel Wilson of Dublin, sister-in-law Rhonna of Fayetteville, sister, Stephanie Wilson of Hallsboro, and his granddaughter, Ryleigh McKenzie Jackson of Florida.
The family will receive family and friends on Saturday, April 6, 2024 from 1:00pm until 3:00pm at White Oak Baptist Church fellowship hall in White Oak, NC.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the White Oak Baptist Church of White Oak, NC or the charity of one's choice.
