ELIZABETHTOWN - Delbert Lee Stewart, of 136 Stewart St., Elizabethtown, went to join his Lord and Savior, Tuesday Nov. 8, 2005.
Mr. Stewart leaves behind his cherished wife of 52 years, Edith Lewis Stewart. He was the son of the late Lee and Rachel Stewart; and was preceded in death by a brother, Adolph Stewart; and a sister, Helen White.
Delbert was born in Sampson County, Jan. 21, 1930, and moved to Bladen County in 1952, following his discharge from the Army. He was a Korean War veteran. Delbert was owner and operator of Elizabethtown Salvage Yard and Wrecker Service since 1962. He was a pioneer in the development of teletype systems used in national salvage networking, was a professional bail bondsman for the state of North Carolina, was a contract transporter for a local automotive dealership, was an avid fisherman and was a dearly-loved friend to all.
Delbert was a member of White Oak Church of God of Prophecy.
Along with his wife, Delbert is also survived by a daughter, Cindy Stewart Roach of Holden Beach; a son and daughter-in law, Ray and Gail Stewart of Elizabethtown; a brother, Troy Stewart of Elizabethtown; two sisters, Ruby Shirley of Parkton, and Kay Tatum of Lumberton; five grandchildren, Michelle Marshall and Wesley Register, both of Holden Beach, Kevin and wife JoAnna, and Amanda and Jessie Stewart, all of Elizabethtown; five great-grandchildren, Allie and Brandon Marshall and Destiny and Catilyn Register, all of Holden Beach, and Jake Stewart of Elizabethtown.
Funeral services will be conducted, Friday, Nov. 11, 2005, at 11 a.m. at Bladen Funeral Home & Cremations, Elizabethtown. Burial will follow in White Oak Church of God of Prophecy cemetery.
Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bladen Funeral Home & Cremations, Elizabethtown. The family will receive friends at other times at the home.
