Delcie (Courson) Atherton 89,of Whitman Mass.,formally of Elizabethtown passed away Wed. January 2, at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island.
She was born and brought up in Elizabethtown, NC, daughter of the late William and Marie(Kinlaw) Courson. She was a graduate of Elizabethtown High School.
She has been a Whitman resident for over 65 years, a communicant of the former First Baptist Church of Whiman and worked as a secretary or the former Thom McCann Shoe Company before retiring.
Delcie was well known for walking all over town and was friends with everyone. She also enjoyed needlepoint and caring for her granddaughter Kelsey. She was the epitome of a true southern belle. She was \\"Granny\\" to all that knew her.
She is survived by her daughter Melodye Atherton-Beattie, her husband Craig and her granddaughter Kelsey Beattie all of Putnam, CT; her sister Sylvia Brady of NC; one niece and two nephews in NC. She was also the sister of the late Nannette Dollar.
A graveside service will be held Thursday, January 10, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Bladen Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Cameron McGill officiating.
