Dewey Dowless

Dewey Herman Dowless, 78, of Whiteville passed away at his home on Friday, February 4, 2022. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie James and Vivian Bradshaw Dowless; wife, Linda Dowless; brothers: Levi Dowless, Shelton Dowless and James Dowless, Jr.; sister, Peggy Lou Dowless Hooks and great-grandson: Colby Dowless.

Dewey leaves behind his two sons: Clark Dowless (Mary), Randy Dowless, both of Whiteville; two brothers: Harry Dowless (Linda) of Hope Mills, McCrae Dowless of Bladenboro; two sisters: Myrtice Johnson (Tommy) of Bladenboro, Filena Carson (Lloyd) of Autryville; four grandchildren: Scott Dowless (Nicole), Stephanie Long (Sam), Tiffany Keel (Eric), Hope McPherson; six great-grandchildren: Liam, Evelyn, Langston, Easton, Christian and Abel.

Dewey adored his wife and family with all his heart. He was dedicated to taking care of his wife, Linda for 23 years after she had a stroke. He loved being outside in the woods timber cruising and farming. His pride was his blueberry patch at his home. Dewey was a very honest and hardworking man and if you received a handshake from him, you felt it. His gentle spirit will be greatly missed.

The family will receive friends from 6-8pm on Monday, February 7th at Bladen-Gaskins Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. A funeral service will be held at 2pm on Tuesday, February 8th at Bladen-Gaskins Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Greenwood and Rev. Coy Long officiating. Burial will follow in the Clarkton Cemetery.
