Dewey Dowless

Dewey Dowless, 91, of Bladenboro went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 4, 2022. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lacy H. Dowless and Ella Turner Dowless, his wife, Maxine Taylor Dowless, three sons: Delane, Robert, and James Dowless; brothers: Marvin Lee, Joseph, Lacy H. Jr, David, Douglas and sister, Josephine.

Left to cherish his memory are son Rickie Dowless (Tina), daughter Vickie Dowless, daughter-in-law Sherry Dowless, six grandchildren, Ricky Dowless Jr. (Brandi), Curtis Dowless (Brandy), Nathan Dowless (Ashley), Jeremy Dowless (Emily), Laci Jo Scott (Reese), and Austin Dowless, and 12 great grandchildren, Amber, Franklin, Gavin Riley, Gavin, Alivia, Millie Rose, Georgia Grace, Taylor, Tenley, Riley, Avery, and Anna Grey.

Dewey worked hard throughout his life with jobs as a painter, in the saw mill in Bladenboro, a dairy farm in Abbottsburg, construction, farming on the family farm and ended his career as a meat cutter for over 40 years. Working with the public until 83, he never stopped after that and filled his time with what he called, "tinkering" on lawn equipment and anything that needed repairing, but most importantly he loved spending time with friends and his great grandchildren.

Dewey served 9 years with the National Guard and many years as a volunteer with Bladenboro Fire Department.  He loved the Lord and his church family and was a lifelong member of Abbottsburg Baptist Church serving as Deacon and Sunday School Superintendent. He was a great father, grandfather, and great grandfather and will be missed by all who knew him.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Monday, June 6, 2022 at the Bladenboro Chapel of Bladen Gaskins in Bladenboro. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 7, 2022 at 11:00 am at the Abbottsburg Baptist Church with Rev. Ronald Hester, Rickie Dowless and Nathan Dowless officiating. Burial will follow the services in the Pine Crest Cemetery.
