Dewey Raynor

Dr. Dewey Eugene Raynor Sr., 74, of Elizabethtown passed away on Saturday, December 11, 2021. He leaves behind his loving wife, Becky Raynor of the home, two sons, Zack Raynor of Elizabethtown, Dewey “Drew” Raynor Jr. of Asheville, daughter Carrie Raynor of Elizabethtown, one sister Faye Cline of Salisbury, and a host of nieces and nephews. Dr. Raynor was preceded in death by his parents, John and Alice Parrish Raynor, four brothers, Roy, Dan, Bill and J.C., two brothers-in-law, Doug Faires and Banks Cline and two sisters-in-law, Sue and Ann.

Dr. Raynor was a Bladen County optometrist for 50 years. He often bragged that he was the only optometrist to live and work in Bladen County. He enjoyed his work and treated his patients as family.   Dr. Raynor was a loving husband, father and uncle who cherished every minute spent with his family. He was a caretaker by nature and loved playing the part of Santa every year. He was proud of his four nephews and two great nieces who chose to follow in his footsteps to become optometrists. Dr. Raynor loved a good round of golf whether watching or playing. He will be missed greatly by not only his family but by the community he served so well.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 16, 2021 at 3 pm at the Elizabethtown Presbyterian Church with Dr. Bill Young officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Burial will be held on Friday, December 17, 2021 at 10:00 am in the Providence Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Angier.
