Diane Hause, born January 13, 1952 in Forest Hills, Long Island, NY passed from this life on September 26, 2017. Diane, a well-known and respected artist and art professor received a BFA from UNC-Wilmington and her MFA from the University of California, SB. She left NC in 1979 but moved back in 2010 and built her working art space on 240 acres in Ivanhoe, NC. Diane hosted many exhibits of her own work as well as themed group exhibitions showcasing national and NC artists. Her studio/gallery, here and previously in Atlanta, also hosted fundraising benefits for causes that were dear to her heart such as Lost Boys of Sudan, Elderly Navajo Weavers, Afghan Women, Coffee Kids and Responding to Flood Victims.
Diane was known for her giving nature, her quick wit, her amazing tales based on her life story, her easy laugh, her generous hugs and smile. Anyone that knew Diane knew her laser focus for those in need. There are many people, strangers she came across, that may not have known her name, but never forgot her. Diane would slip someone money if they were in need, she would stop to offer a ride if someone was stranded by the side of the road, jump a car battery with cables she always carried, change a tire if they didn't know how, or hold the umbrella if they did and it was raining. One cannot count the number of animals lives that improved by their encounters with her. Diane had an uncanny sense to look where most might not notice, a dog chained to a tree out in the freezing rain, pigs without food, a cat alive but lying injured by the side of the road, a turtle trying to cross a busy highway, or a fawn crying out for help. All of these creatures were either provided with shelters, bowls filled with food, trips to the vet or cried for and buried if they did not survive.
Diane is preceded in death by her father Rev. Charles Hause and two nephews: Nathan and Brian. She leaves behind her beloved Mother and best friend, Rita Hause, her siblings Barbara, Charlie, Robert, all of Wilmington, David from Carrboro, seven nieces and nephews and countless special friends. Diane also felt she could never express the depth of her Love and gratefulness to Barbara Squires, of the home, for being her loving companion. For their decades of shared laughs, fun, and adventurous travels during this long and winding road. She felt extreme gratitude to have been the recipient of Barbara's nature that let's love flow selflessly, generously and lovingly toward others. Barbara truly expressed this love by providing tireless and loving comfort, and gave all of herself to the all-encompassing care of the dying process.
Diane would like to thank Dr. Birgit Arb, for her care and support during the seven years of treating Diane's cancer.
In lieu of flowers, please send contributions to charities that provide comfort to others, be they human or animal.
