Dorothy Batten

Dorothy Rose Bridgers Batten, 82, of Clarkton passed away Monday, May 26, 2014. She was preceded in death by her parents Joseph "Joe" W. and Celia Bridgers, her husband Richard Elmore Batten, one daughter Angela "Angie" B. Hodges, two sisters: Edith and Madee Bridgers, and three brothers, Sonny, Franklin and A.D. Bridgers. Survivors include one son, SFC Richard J. Batten (USA Retired) of Clarkton, two daughters, Phyllis B. Exum and husband Frank Jr. of Bennettsville, SC and Bonita B. Collins and fiance Terry Spaulding of Clarkton, two brothers James Bridgers of Clarkton and Robert "Bob" Bridgers of Ocean Isle Beach, two sisters Elizabeth Cheshire and husband Carl of Sea Grove, and Gloria Lupton of New Bern, eight grandchildren: Richard "Richie" Batten of Greensboro, Crystal Walker of Ocean Isle Beach, Heather Mitchell of Simms, TX; Hollie Higginbotham of New Boston, TX; Alston Collins of Clarkton, Ashley Collins of Dallas, TX; Hope Beck of New Bern and Temple Bullock of Rowland, 16 great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren.

Ms. Dorothy loved to socialize around the kitchen table with family and friends. She was a wonderful seamstress and enjoyed doing upholstery and gardening. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

The family will receive friends Thursday, May 29, 2014 from 2:00 -2:45 pm at Bladen Gaskins Funeral Home in Elizabethtown followed by a funeral service at 3:00 pm. with Rev. Charles Hester officiating. Burial will follow the services in Clarkton Cemetery.
