Dorothy Flowers "Dot" Elliott, 94, died peacefully on Sunday, September 10, 2017, at the Methodist Manor of Florence.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 16, 2017, at Carvers Creek United Methodist Church with burial following in the church cemetery, directed by Waters-Powell Funeral Home of Florence. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., Saturday, at the church. Bladen-Gaskins Funeral Home of Elizabethtown is also assisting the family.
She was born in Carvers Creek, North Carolina, on August 30, 1923, a daughter of the late James Edgar and Lillie Williamson Flowers. She graduated from Elizabethtown High School and earned a degree in Elementary Education from the Womens' College of the University of North Carolina. She was a second-grade teacher for 35 years in Key West, Florida. She was an avid reader and was a member of the Key West Garden Club.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, William A. Elliott; baby brother, Elkanah Flowers; brother and sister-in-law, James Gillespie Flowers and Liza Flowers; sister and brother-in-law, Freddie Flowers Brockington and Keels Brockington; and brother, David Flowers.
She is survived by a brother, Edgar "Corky" Flowers and his wife, Mary Louise Flowers, of Baxley, GA; a sister-in-law, Cleo Flowers of Wilmington, NC; many nieces and nephews, including Jane Brockington Harrell of Lake City; and her beloved caregiver, Roy Lee McKenzie.
The family would like to express special thanks to the staff of the Methodist Manor of Florence, where she was known as the sweetest resident who always had a smile.
