Dorothy Nance

Dorothy Carleen Butler Nance, 92, of Bladenboro, went to her heavenly home on Sunday, August 6, 2017. She was preceded in death by her parents: Arthur and Vady Butler and husband: W.C. Nance. Dorothy is survived by her daughter: Linda N. Gaskins of Clarkton; two sons: Jimmy Nance (Patricia) of Longs, SC and Billy Nance of Bladenboro; two sisters: Mary Lou Edwards of Bladenboro, Joyce Russ (Charles) of Fairmont; brother: Everette Butler (Peggy) of Bladenboro; seven grandchildren: Donald Nance (Stacey) of Florence, SC, Michael Nance (Ruby) of Florida, Jaime Nance (Scott) of Myrtle Beach, Rhonda Gaskins of Fuquay Varina, Ron Gaskins (Alexandra) of Greenville, NC, Kayla Priest (Jonathan) of Lumberton, Jordan Nance of Lumberton; nine great-grandchildren: Emma, Noah, Luke, Jacob, Laura Hazel, Macy, Kailey, Peyton, and Autumn.

Dorothy loved her family, church, and especially the children she babysat over the years. She was known to the children as "MeMaw". Dorothy kept the nursery at Bethel Holiness Church in Bladenboro for 40 plus years before entering the nursing home. She never gave up the will to live. While in the nursing home, she helped others with anything she could. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

A special thank you to the staff of Elizabethtown Nursing Home, especially Vernita Ward and Willadean Ejiofor, who were so kind and made her feel like family. We cannot express enough gratitude for the care shown to our loved one. The family would also like to express their gratitude to the Bethel Holiness church family for their visits, cards, and encouraging words to Dorothy during her illness. She looked forward to them and they made her life worth living.

The family will receive friends on Monday, August 7, 2017 from 6:00-8:30pm at Bladen-Gaskins Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at 6:00pm at Bethel Holiness Church in Bladenboro. Rev. Jerry Smith, Rev. Hazel Smith and Rev. Aaron Leonard will be officiating services. Burial will follow service in Singletary Cemetery in Butters.

At other times, the family will receive friends at the home of Ms. Linda Gaskins 82 N. Clark Street Clarkton, North Carolina 28433.
