Dwight “Pete” Cleveland Long Sr., 68, of Dublin went to his eternal home on November 10, 2021. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Mae Herring Long, four sisters, Barbara Caulder, Betty Fowler, Patsy Horn, and Attie Mae Soles, , and three brothers, James W. “Jimmy” Long, James L. “BoBo” Long, and Marshall R Long.. Pete is survived by the mother of his children, Kathy Long Sparks, son Dwight Cleveland “Pete” Long of Lumberton, daughters, Stephanie Horcoff (Rodney) of Lake Lure, and Melody White (Jason) of Maine, brother Huey Long (Angie) of Dublin, four sisters, Mildred Long of Elizabethtown, Phyllis Riley of Lumberton, Judy Hubbard of Greys Creek, and Elaine Smith (Lenny) of Dublin, and eight grandchildren, Jenna Lee, Blaire Pait (Mack), Sophie Lee, Kylie Owens, Samuel Owens, Kelsey Barnett, Melissa Long and Kahnr Long and several nieces and nephews.
Pete was a devoted, hardworking family man. His handshake was his bond, and you could depend upon it. He taught his children all about Jesus and life lessons, both the good and the bad. His good deeds for others were never for show and his infectious smile lit up the room when he walked in. Pete set out to have a career as a general contractor and with strong will and determination he became employed as a general contractor for the Department of Defense. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and he traveled the globe doing what he loved. His life left such an enormous impression in this world, and he will be dearly missed.
A graveside service will be held on Sunday, November 14, 2021 at 3:00 pm in the Allen Cemetery in Dublin officiated by Rev. Austin Smith and Rev. Jason Williams. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
