Elbert Atkins

December 11, 1940 — August 4, 2009

Elbert C. Atkins, age 68 of 633 White Plains Church Road, Clarkton passed away at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center on Tuesday, August 4, 2009. He was a member of the United Pentecostal Church of Elizabethtown. He served in the National Guard and Armed Forces of the USA for a total of eight years. He served in the Company \\"L\\" 119th INF REGT.



He was born on December 11, 1940 in Bladen County to Elbert Rogers and Louise Meares Atkins.

Mr. Atkins was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Roy Atkins and a sister, Ramona Atkins.



He is survived by his wife, Sarah Elizabeth Atkins of the home; four sons, Bruce C. Atkins and wife Shelia of Lisbon, Elbert Lee Atkins and wife Dohila of Hope Mills, Ricky E. Atkins and wife Jeannie of Chadbourn and Chet E. Atkins of Abbottsburg; two daughters, Norma Atkins Parks of Wilmington and Sarah Ann Atkins of Lisbon; one brother, Jack C. Atkins and wife Rosa Lee of Clarkton; also survived by a very special friend (like a son) Richard Snyder and wife Mae of Cierra, OK; fourteen grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; three nieces and five nephews.



The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 6, 2009 from 6:30 until 8:30 pm at Bladen-Gaskins Funeral Home.



Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 7, 2009 at 2:00 pm at Bladen-Gaskins Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Linton and Rev. Johnathan Robinette officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Horeb Church Cemetery.
