Elizabeth Fort

August 2, 1919 — January 6, 2011

Elizabeth (Lib) Darden Fort, 91, of Clarkton, died peacefully on January 6,2011 at Summit Place of North Myrtle Beach in Little River, SC. She was a faithful Christian, active member of the Clarkton United Methodist Church, a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a friend to many as well as a tireless worker and volunteer. Her favorite pastime was reading and sunning on the beach.



She was born on August 2, 1919 in Clinton, North Carolina to parents Elliott and Margaret Darden and lived in Keener, Roseboro, and Clarkton following marriage.



She was the wife of J. Dwight Fort for 65 years before his death in 2004 and is survived by two sons, James D. Fort, Jr of Clarkton and Stephen R. Fort and wife, Julia, of Little River, SC, as well as four grandchildren, Jennifer Martin, David Fort, Julia Tripp, and James Fort and three great-grandchildren. She has two surviving brothers, Joseph Darden of Denver, Colorado and Charles Darden of Columbus, North Carolina and is preceded in death by sister, Katherine D. Baldwin and brother, Fisher Darden.



Visitation for the family will be at Bladen-Gaskins Funeral Home in Elizabethtown on Friday, Jan 7 from 6-8 p.m. A graveside service at Clarkton Cemetery will be on Saturday, Jan 8 at 2 pm.
