Frank E. Allen, 91, of Bladenboro went home to be with the Lord on October 19, 2017. He was born on May 21st, 1926 on the sandy banks of the Black Swamp in deep rural Bladen County, Southeastern North Carolina. Frank loved and served his Lord, his family, his neighbors and his church. Everyone who knew him would say four things about him: He was a good man, a devout Christian, a hard worker, and he loved to help people. He truly typified what Tom Brokaw called the result of the Great Depression and classed as "The Greatest Generation".
He was predeceased by his first wife and the mother of his children, Ava Gray Edwards Allen; his eldest daughter, Peggy Jo Allen McCormick; his second wife, Mildred Nance Allen; his three sisters, Edna Allen Robertson, Ida Allen Williamson and Treva Allen Ward. Frank is survived by his Daughter Vicky Allen of Bladen County, NC; his son Frankie Allen of Portsmouth, VA; his step daughter, Margaret Colbert of New Bern, NC; grandchildren Mack McRoberts, Nikki McRoberts, Trey McCormick, Ashton Allen; and great grandchildren, Jacob Lopez, Isaac Munoz, Tucker McCormick, Sutton McCormick and Journey Allen. His children and grandchildren affectionately called him Pa, his church family called him brother and his neighbors called him friend.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm on Sunday, October 22, 2017 at Bladen Gaskins Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. A funeral service will be Monday, October 23rd at 3 pm at Abe Branch Holiness Church in Bladenboro. Burial will follow the service in Hursey Cemetery in Bladenboro.
