Franklin Burney

Franklin Hugh Burney, 84, of White Oak, NC passed away on Tuesday, December 17, 2019. His parents, John Franklin Burney and Mabel Bryan Burney, preceded him in death. Hugh leaves behind his loving wife of 62 years, Joyce H. Burney of the home; children: Bryan D. Burney and wife Joye, K.L. Burney and wife Sharon, William Scott Burney and wife Amanda, two brothers: Jerry Swain Burney of White Oak; Samuel R. Burney and wife Sheree of Charleston, SC; two sisters, Glynda B. McLamb and husband Richard of White Oak; Bonnie B. Meeker and husband Robert D.C. Jr. of Tar Heel; five grandchildren: Thomas Dylan Burney, Erin Leigh Burney, Alicia Marie Burney and husband Joey Meshaw, Julianna Kay Burney, Kerry Laine Burney and four great grandchildren: Cadence Alivia Burney, Gavin Joel Meshaw Burney, Tymber Meshaw and Gabriel Burney.

Hugh was a loving, hard worker who cherished his family. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and coon hunting. His strong work ethic and compassionate spirit left an eternal legacy in the hearts of all that knew him.

The family will receive friends from 1-2 pm on Saturday, December 21 at Bladen Gaskins Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. A funeral service is planned for 2 pm with Minister Tom Atkinson officiating. Burial will be private.
