George Elton Hammond was born June 21, 1940 in Robeson County, NC and went home to be with the Jesus on December 11, 2020 in Robeson County, NC. George is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Mildred Hammond, two twin sons: Rev. Adam Hammond (Amber) of Bracey, Virginia, Rev. Eric Hammond (Kara) of Slidell, Louisiana, and a daughter, Jennifer Hammond of Bladenboro. He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Caleb, Joshua, Rayelin, Nathan, Luke, Hannah and Abigail. George was also survived by three brothers and four sisters (one brother deceased) and numerous nieces and nephews.
George was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in Korea and Vietnam. He was a skilled carpenter who loved working with his hands. He loved his family very much and felt very blessed with how God’s mercy and grace was so evident in his life. He loved talking Nascar, the Bible, and about his dog he affectionately named “Coon Dog.”
A graveside service will be held at 11am on Tuesday, December 15th in the Singletary Baptist Church Cemetery in Lumberton, NC with Rev. Adam Hammond and Rev. Eric Hammond officiating service.
George was a simple man who loved his family, Jesus and talking to people. He never met a stranger. We will miss him, but we know through our faith in Jesus, we will see him again.
