George Wilson

George Hayward Wilson, age 58 of Elizabethtown, died Thursday, March 5, 2015 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. He is preceded in death by his father, Joe Kelly Wilson; an infant sister, and sister, Mary Merritt; wife, Cynthia Miller Wilson; and daughter, Jessica Dawn Wilson. He is survived by his mother, Elizabeth G. Wilson of the home; daughter, Amanda Elizabeth Wilson of Piedmont, SC and Victoria Barbara Wilson and Matthew Wood of Greenville, SC; brother, Joe Callis Wilson and wife Tammie of Kinston; and two grandchildren, Haiden and Trent Wood.

George joined the Air Force and attended basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio TX. He was then stationed at Norton Air Force Base in San Bernardino, CA serving six years of active duty. He joined the Air Force Reserves Unit at Seymour Johnson Air Base in Goldsboro and was later activated to serve during the Gulf War in Kuwait. He retired from the Air Force in 1999. He received many awards and medals including the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Air Force Training Ribbon, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Air Force Longevity Service Award and Southwest Asia Service Medal.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 8, 2015 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Bladen-Gaskins Funeral Home. Services will be conducted on Monday, March 9, 2015 at Elizabethtown Baptist Church at 3:00 p.m. officiated by Rev. Warren Hill. Burial will follow at Bladen Memorial Gardens.
