George Wilson Smith

George Wilson Smith, of Bladenboro, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, April 4, 2024, at the age of 83. He was born in Bladen County on January 20, 1941, son to the late George Washington Smith and Lois Mazelle Smith.

He is survived by the love of his life for 61 years, Etta Smith, of the home, three sons Ernest Smith (Suzanne), Darryl Smith (Belinda), and Barry Smith (Kim), all of Bladenboro, one daughter Grace Cain (Patrick) of Bladenboro, brother Gerald Smith of Bladenboro, two sisters Janice Taylor of Elizabethtown and Marlene Johnson (Rev. Merle Johnson) of Bladenboro, ten grandchildren Carrie (Justin), Ashley (Christian), Amanda (Jonathan), Michael, Austin, Hannah, Amelia, Alyssa, Madison and Samuel, and five great grandchildren Ryley, Georgia, Emma, Ellie, and Natalie. George was preceded in death by his parents, sister-in-law Shirley Batton Smith, brother-in-law Jimmy Taylor, and daughter-in-law Gwenda Smith.

Wilson was the owner and operator of the Smith Brothers Paving Company. He took great pride in providing the best service to his customers. When not working, you could find him riding his gator, tending the garden or finding a good auction somewhere. He always had a kind, humble way about him and enjoyed giving the bountiful blessings of his garden away to anyone he met. He loved the Lord and his family with his whole heart. Folks will always remember his legacy of love, his love of singing and his dry humor that kept everyone laughing.

The family will receive friends from 7-9 pm on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at the Bladen Gaskins Funeral Home in Elizabethtown, A funeral service will be held at 4 pm on Sunday, April 7, 2024, at the Zion Hill Baptist Church in Bladenboro with the Reverend Quentin Boyce,  Reverend Jonathan Taylor, and Reverend Bob Boone officiating. Burial will follow the services in the Hickory Grove Cemetery in Bladenboro. Pallbearers for the service will be Michael Smith, Austin Smith, Samuel Cain, Dwayne Johnson, Derrick Johnson and Tommy Davis.
