Gertrude C Garner, age 95, of Dublin, NC passed away on Tuesday, September 11, 2018. She is preceded in death by her parents: Ottie Judson Carroll and Atha Thompson Carroll, husband: R.D. Garner, four sisters: Pearl Hester, Geneva Guyton, Clea Mae Kinlaw, and Bessie Darrell, two brothers: Edward Carroll and O.J. Carroll Jr., one son: Carroll Glenn Garner, one daughter: Nancy G. Pait and one infant granddaughter: Jennilee Melvin. Ms. Garner is survived by five daughters: Barbara Veeder of Dublin; Wilma Callihan of Elizabethtown; Phyllis Nunalee (Jay) of Wilmington; Marcy Carter of Dunn; and Jennifer Harris (Roger) of Fayetteville and one son: Wendell Garner (Beverley) of Dublin; 13 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and one on the way in November.
Gertrude was a kind, hardworking, lady who loved the Lord and her family dearly. She was generally a quiet, reserved individual but had a unique ability to create laughter among those around her. Although a woman of few words, she was full of wisdom. Gertrude was very independent, strong willed and had a sharp mind. She loved her church and was very intentional about sharing her faith with everyone she met, especially her family. Gertrude was known for her forgiving heart and humble nature. She was the cornerstone of the family and will forever be missed.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm on Saturday, September 22, 2018 at Bladen Gaskins Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, September 23, 2018 at Dublin First Baptist Church with Rev. Tommy Knight and Rev. Cameron McGill officiating. Burial will follow the services in the Allen Cemetery in Dublin.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to Community Hospice and Cape Fear Valley Hospital at Bladen County for their tender care during Ms. Garner's sickness. Also appreciation to Gertrude's Special Caregiver, Mary Williams, for the care she administered over the past several years .
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Dublin First Baptist Church Building Fund.
