Gladys Pharr

Gladys Dowless Pharr, 95, of Tar Heel, NC went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 23, 2017. She is preceded in death by her parents Nealey and Alta Dowless, her husband White C. Pharr Sr. and two brothers: Warren and Gurney Dowless. Gladys leaves to cherish her memory one son White "Bo" C Pharr Jr. and wife Amy of Tar Heel; two daughters: Julia Freeman and husband Garry of Dublin and Jackie Hursey and husband David, also of Dublin; three brothers: Cletus Dowless, Harold Dowless, and Kenneth Dowless all of Bladenboro; one sister Sally O'Sullivan of Elizabethtown, a special son Scotty Tolar of Mississippi; nine grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Gladys loved her family dearly and held a special place in her heart for those grandchildren. She worked for 20 + years at Veeder Root in Elizabethtown as an inspector and then served as a greeter for Walmart for 20 years. She enjoyed her job very much and always had a smile on her face. Gladys often slipped little kids a piece of money to enjoy a bit of shopping while in the store. When not working, she enjoyed the outdoors, going to the beach, planting flowers, and ballroom dancing. She led an active life and will be missed.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm on Saturday, March 25th at Bladen Gaskins Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. A funeral service will be held at 3 pm on Sunday, March 26th at Beth Car Presbyterian Church, 12204 Hwy 87 W, Tar Heel officiated by Rev. May Craven and Rev. Cameron McGill. Burial will follow the services in the church cemetery.
