Gladys Pittman

Miss Gladys Lane Pittman, 102, of Elizabethtown passed away Tuesday, September 3, 2013. She was the daughter of the late Henry Brian Pittman and Estelle Mae Newland Pittman. She graduated from Flora McDonald College in Red Springs. She taught high school French and English in Elizabethtown, Stedman, Tar Heel, and Bladenboro for 39 years. She was elected to Delta Kappa Gamma Honor Society for women educators and was a member for 50 years. She joined Theta Chapter in Wilmington, became a member of Omega Chapter in Whiteville and then Gamma XI Chapter in Bladen County; where scholarships are named for her.
Miss Gladys was an active member of Elizabethtown Presbyterian Church; where she sang in the Chancel Choir, taught the Pittman Bible Class, and was awarded an Honorary Life Membership in the Presbyterian Church Women Group.
She was preceded in death by her parents Henry and Estelle Pittman and one sister Muriel Joyce Pittman.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, September 8, 2013 at 3:00 pm at Elizabethtown Presbyterian Church with Rev. Chris Denny officiating. A private burial will take place prior to the service in Bladen Memorial Gardens in Elizabethtown.
