Glenn Alan Squires, 61, of Kelly, NC, died peacefully on Sunday, September 12, 2010, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice in Wilmington, NC, surrounded by his family and friends.
Glenn was born in Wilmington, NC, on May 6, 1949, the son of Ethel Mae Squires and the late Nelson Squires of Kelly, NC. Glenn is also survived by one son, Chad Alan Squires of Kelly; three sisters, Audrey S. Dwiggins and husband Don of Winston-Salem, Dr. Barbara Squires of Ivanhoe; Rosalind S. Campbell and Glenn of Elizabethtown; and long time companion Donna Stutzenberger and her children, Susan Paxson and Nathan Dean LeBlanc. Also niece Kelli Burns and husband George; nephews Max Dwiggins and Shane Wyke; two great nieces Madison and MaKenna Dwiggins and two great nephews, Wills and Miles Burns. Along with a multitude of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Glenn graduated from Elizabethtown High School in 1968. He attended Wingate College for two years and then transferred to Pembroke College.
Glenn earned his Eagle Scout award while in Kelly Troop 240 in the Wilmington Baptist association.
Glenn was the present owner and CEO of Squires Forest Products in Elizabethtown. He followed his father, grandfather, and great-grand father in the timber business. He was a member of the North Carolina Forestry Association. He also worked with his sisters in land management. Glenn was overseer of a piece of property on Black River that was donated to the Nature Conservancy by his parents.
Glenn was long time member of Centerville Baptist Church in Kelly, NC.
He was loved by his family and friends. His past interest included skiing, flying, fishing, hunting, and beach music. Glenn was a very giving and good hearted man.
The family will receive friends at Bladen-Gaskins Funeral Home Tuesday, September 14, from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. Services will be held Wednesday, September 15, at Centerville Baptist Church at 11:00 AM with Rev. Jack Miller and Rev. Ryan Carter officiating. Burial will follow in the Garden of Memory Cemetery in Kelly.
