Gordon Gene Mattingly, 50, of Clarkton passed away on Saturday, October 12, 2019 at his home surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his sister, Urana K. Seidler. Gordon leaves behind his parents, W.B. and Thelma Joan Davis of Texas; his wife, Crystal Mattingly of the home; mother and father in law, Darrell and Roberta Kenney of the home; three daughters: Hope Mattingly of the home, Brittany and Tristin Mattingly, who reside with their mother, Ellen Mattingly in Florida; five brothers: Billy Mattingly, Anthony Mattingly, David Davis, and Edward Davis, all of Texas and William Davis of Louisiana; four sisters: Dawn Davis of Texas, Nikki Hardy of Texas, Donna Cavazos and Debi Chance both of Texas and two grandchildren, Isabella and Brody both of Florida.
Gordon was a loving husband and father. He cherished his family with all his heart. A quiet, hard working man who enjoyed fishing. He loved animals of all kinds, but no dog could resist him. We called him the dog whisperer. He was tough as nails. When he was diagnosed, they told us he had only a few months. Well he fought as hard and long as he could. He made it nearly two years. He was a southern gentleman of the best sort. No lady ever opened a door in his presence or changed a tire. ALL people received the utmost respect from him. He believed in being kind as well as being well known for speaking his mind. A whiz in the garden. He didn’t even mind doing All the tilling. Shy about dancing but danced often because he knew I loved it. Loved football and I’m sure he will be rooting for the Cowboys from Heaven. Gordon thought that having an autistic daughter was cool; that while all kinds are unique, Hope was even more so in the best possible way. He felt like a blessed man because all his daughters were so beautiful and smart.
A Celebration of Life service will be held later.
