Gurney Fletcher Allen Sr., 86, of Tar Heel, went to join his Saviour October 2nd, 2018. Gurney was born January 16th, 1932 to the late Charles Jefferson and Mamie Carroll Allen. He married his precious wife Doris on May 29th, 1952.
Throughout his life Gurney was a hardworking, Christian man and his example touched so many. He and Doris spent 60 years together and built a home, an ever-growing family, and many beautiful memories. When Doris was stricken with dementia, Gurney selflessly cared for her until the Lord called her Home. Shortly thereafter, he had his own battle to fight when he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. Although it may seem so, that cursed disease did not win. Gurney loved people, and more than anything, he enjoyed making them smile. His love, laughter, and joy for life was the testimony he lived and the memory that will comfort those who love him.
Gurney was also preceded in death by his brothers W.S. and June, and by his grandson Luke. He is survived by brothers Clifford and Jim, and sister Berline; three sons: Jeff, and wife Teresa, Fletcher, and wife Peggy, Mark, and wife Teal, all of Tar Heel, and one daughter, Jill of Elizabethtown; nine grandchildren: Jeffrey, Renee, Lindsey, Nicki, Gunner, Leigh Ann, J.R., Tony and Carmen; and ten great-grandchildren: Sarah, Chloe, Colton, Charlotte, Jase, Tyler, Luke, Carver, Sadie, and Finley.
The family will receive friends from 5:30 - 8:30 pm on Thursday, October 4, 2018 at Bladen Gaskins Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. A funeral service will be held Friday, October 5, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Tar Heel Baptist Church followed by interment in the church cemetery.
