Gurney “Fletcher” Allen Jr., 63, of Tar Heel passed away at home surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gurney Fletcher Allen Sr. and Doris Ann Beard Allen, and one son, Jonathan “Luke” Allen. Fletcher leaves behind his loving wife of 33 years, Pegi Bryant Allen, one son, Gurney Fletcher Allen III, both of the home, two daughters, Lindsay Townsend and Nicole Lane Allen, both of Tar Heel, two brothers, Jeff Allen (Teresa) of Dublin, Mark Allen (Teal) of Tar Heel, one sister, Jill Allen of Sunset Beach, and two grandchildren, Chloe Allen and Colton Allen.

Fletcher was a Godly family man. He loved the Lord, spent time in the word and taught Sunday School at his local church. He enjoyed teaching the truth of the gospel and spending time in prayer. He worked at Dupont for 23 years and tended his family farm. He loved nothing more than to be plowing rows and singing his heart out while doing it. His favorite foods were fried chicken and ice cream. His hobbies included gardening, plowing with his horses, and singing. He leaves a loving legacy of faith, music, and family.

A graveside service will be held on Sunday, December 6, 2020 at 3:00 pm at Purdie United Methodist Church Cemetery in Tar Heel with Rev. Al Marshburn and Rev. Jerry Beck officiating. The family will receive friends in the church yard immediately following the service. All attendees are asked to wear masks and practice social distancing.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Avenue, 16th Floor New York, NY 10001.
