Gwendolyn "Gwen" Deaver, 87, of Bladenboro entered into eternal rest on Monday, April 28, 2008.
She was preceded by her parents, her husband, James Lonnie Deaver and three grandchildren, Greg Deavers, Jamie Deavers, and Joshua Deaver.
Ms. Deaver was born in Columbus County to Quince and Rosella Fields. She practiced as a nurse around forty years after graduating from Baker's Hospital Scholl of Nursing, in Lumberton, NC. Ms. Deaver helped the first Rescue Squad in Bladenboro. She worked for Betsey Johnson Hospital in Dunn, NC, and Columbus County Hospital. She also worked for Dr. D. H. Bridger, Sr. and retired from Seveland Community Action Headstart.
Ms. Deaver was survived by four sons, Freddy Deaver and wife, Janet of Pinopolis, SC, Johnny Deavers and wife, Lilibeth of
Bladenboro, Charles Deaver and wife, Audrey of Prattville, Alabama and Windy Deavers and wife, Debbie of Clayton, daughter,
Gwenella Ellis and husband, Tom of Bladenboro, two step-sons, Gerald Deaver and wife, Lois of Lumberton, and Jimmy Deaver of Alaska, one step daughter, Daphine Coleman and husband, J.P. of Chadbourn and one sister, Rosa Bailey of Florence, SC, she had twenty-three grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, April 30, 2008, from 6:30 until 8:30pm at Bladen Funeral Home. Funeral will be
Thursday, May 1, 2008, at 11:00am at New Center Baptist Church with
Rev. George Langley officiating. Burial will follow the service in the Deaver
Cemetery.
