H. Manly Clark Jr. 82, a life time resident and businessman of Elizabethtown, NC, died peacefully at home on Friday, March 5, 2010.



He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years Frances Cain Clark, a daughter and son; Ann Clark Ramsay and husband Kerr Craig Ramsay of Raleigh and Haddon M. Clark III and wife Irma Sorrell Clark of Cary. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Kerr Ramsay and wife Palmer of Decatur, GA., John Ramsay and wife Annie of Farmville, VA, Manly Clark IV of Charlotte, Philip Clark of Cary, and Sydney Clark of Cary. He also leaves behind three brothers; Giles R. Clark and wife Rachel Clark of Elizabethtown, David K. Clark and wife Miriam Clark of Elizabethtown, and Rogers H. Clark of Clinton and ten nieces and nephews. Manly was preceded in death by his parents, H. Manly Clark, Sr. and Mary Robertson Clark of Elizabethtown.



He was a good husband, father and citizen and will be missed by all that were fortunate to have known him. A lifelong resident of Elizabethtown, Manly attended Presbyterian Junior College and the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and was a Naval Veteran of World War II. He was a member and past president of the Elizabethtown Rotary Club and member and Deacon of the Elizabethtown Baptist Church. He was involved in his community and served on the Elizabethtown Volunteer Fire Department for many years and was past chairman of the Elizabethtown Planning and Zoning Committee. The Boy Scouts of America was an important part of his life and in 1990 was honored by the Cape Fear Council with the Silver Beaver Award and in 2008 as the Eagle Class Honoree. He was a 32 Degree Mason and lifetime member of Bladen Lodge 646 AF & AM Elizabethtown, NC. In 1951, he started an automobile dealership in Elizabethtown with his three brothers and stayed in that business for 30 years. He and his brothers also owned and operated several businesses, including Camp Clearwater, Sampson-Bladen Oil Company, Waccamaw Oil Transport, and Clark Brothers, Inc.



The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 3:30 pm at Bladen-Gaskins Funeral Home on Sunday, March 7, 2010. The funeral service will be held on Monday, March 8, 2010, at the Elizabethtown Baptist at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Elizabethtown City Cemetery.
