Hannah Sweat Gooden

Hannah Rose Sweat Gooden, went to her eternal home on January 15, 2022. She was preceded in death by her parents, Berry and Myrtice Warwick Lewis; her husbands: Billy H. Sweat and NA Gooden, Sr.; a son, Andrew Sweat, sisters and brothers: Thay White, Coegill Lewis, Rusty Lewis, Jean Gooden and Glenys Thompson.

Hannah Rose leaves behind her sisters: Martha Bridgers and Edith Stewart of Elizabethtown and Autry Lewis of Raleigh; sons: Jerry (Beverly) Sweat of Bladenboro, Billy Sweat of Elizabethtown and Neil (Pam) Gooden of White Oak; grandchildren: Jeremy, Brennan (Tiffany), Melinda, Andrea, April, Tina, Haley and Lauren; eleven great-grandchildren and lots of nieces and nephews.

Hannah Rose was born August 25, 1930 in Robeson County. Her family moved to Bladen County at a young age where her early years were spent working on the family farm. She went on to work as a hairdresser and seamstress.

Hannah Rose loved gardening, planting flowers, sewing and most of all spending time with her family and going to church. She enjoyed cooking, just ask anyone about her chicken and pastry and banana pudding. Hannah will be remembered by the difference/impact she made on in the lives of her sons, daughter-in-law’s and grandchildren and all who knew her.

The family will receive friends from 6-8pm on Tuesday, January 18th at Bladen-Gaskins Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. A funeral service will be held at 3pm on Wednesday, January 19th at White’s Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Danny Lewis and Rev. Bill Van-Meter officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family requests that all attendees wear a mask to the services.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to any church, fire department or charity of your choice.
