Harvey Gaskins

Harvey Rexford Gaskins, Jr. age 80 of Clarkton, died on Friday, July 27, 2012 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice House in Whiteville.



Harvey served his entire adult life, starting at age 15, in the funeral profession with the exception of 2 years in the Army during the Korean War. He was passionate about funeral service and dedicated his life to the service of others during their time of need. His witty sense of humor would light up a room, making those around him laugh.





He is survived by his wife Linda Nance Gaskins of the home; two sons, Harvey Rexford Gaskins, III and wife Laurie of Champaign, IL; Ron Gaskins and wife Alexandra of Winston Salem, NC; two daughters, Deloris Butler and husband Rick of Hillsborough, NC, Rhonda Eller and husband Shawn of Fuquay Varina, NC; three sisters, Ida Fore and husband Louis of Waxhax, NC, Agnes Toler and husband Noah of New Bern, NC, Genevieve Toler and husband Bill of Bridgeton, NC; special cousins, Paul Garner and wife Rosa and Sandra Arthur; grandchildren, Kyle Butler and wife Jenn; Philip Butler and wife Lindsay, Anna Butner and husband Brison, Daniel Gaskins, and Emma Kay Eller; three great grandchildren, Savanah Butler, Jackson Butler, Alivia Butner and two on the way in November; mother-in-law, Dorothy Nance; several special cousins and a host of friends; and a special toy poodle, Hershey.



The family will receive friends on Monday, July 30, 2012 from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m. at Bladen-Gaskins Funeral Home. A service will follow in the Chapel at 8:00 p.m. On Tuesday, July 31, 2012, a visitation will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Munden Funeral Home in Morehead City, with a graveside service to follow at Bayview Cemetery at 12:00 p.m. Services will be officiated by Rev. Cameron McGill, Rev. Bruce Cannon, and Rev. Warren Hill.
