Hazel Hayes

August 2, 1916 — March 19, 2011

Hazel Osborne Hayes, 94, of Elizabethtown passed away on Saturday, March 19, 2011.



The family will receive friends in the Magnolia Building of White's Creek Baptist Church immediately after the funeral and burial. Her funeral will be held at White's Creek Baptist Church, Friday, March 25, 2011 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Kincey Barrow officiating. Burial will follow in church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family request that you make donations to White's Creek Baptist Church, 6062 Brown Marsh/Mercer Mill Road, Clarkton, NC 28433 in memory of Mrs. Hayes.



Mrs. Hayes is survived by two sons, Claxton Hayes and wife Jeanne of Elizabethtown and Richard and wife Linda of Charlotte; four grandchildren, Kelly Starkloff of Elizabethtown, Lyndsay Hayes and her fiancé Jimmy Ennis of Banner Elk, Michaela Hayes of Charlotte, and Jonathan Hayes of University City; and two great-grand children, Kirsten and Chase Starkloff of Elizabethtown.



She was married to the late Bennie F. Hayes of Clarkton for 46 years and was the last surviving child of John and Lona Wise Osborne of Cerro Gordo. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Euphleen Hayes of Charlotte, many devoted nieces and nephews and their children, and lots of special friends, including the Vance Russ family of La Grange.



Mrs. Hayes lived a long and energetic life. She was a homemaker, a farm wife and a retiree from Belk's in Elizabethtown and Whiteville. She was a member of White's Creek Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and served as assistant to the Building Fund Chairman. Until her husband's death, she was active in the Ladies Auxiliary, Veterans of Foreign Wars. Those who knew her remember her as one of the friendliest people they have ever met.



The family of Mrs. Hayes extends its appreciation to the staff of Elizabethtown Nursing Center for their exceptional love and care for "Miz Hazel".
