Helen Heustess

Helen Barfield Heustess, 87, youngest child of the late Alice and Tracy Barfield, died peacefully in her sleep early Friday morning, February 24, 2017. She was preceded in death by her husband and best friend of fifty plus years, Mallory Heustess, and five siblings. She worked hard all of her life and enjoyed her friends and family.
In her later years, she was a fixture at the Columbus County Department of Aging If you were around her and wondered what she was thinking, you weren't paying attention.
She is survived by her three children: Jack, Troy, Karen. She is also survived by her daughters-in-law Sarah Alice and Debbie who meant a lot to her. Helen loved each of her nine grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren who will miss growing up under her watch.
Visitation will be held Sunday, February 26, at 3:00 p.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church followed by the funeral service at 4:00. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Mt. Zion Church Cemetery Fund and/or the Columbus County Department of Aging.
She was loved by many and will be missed.
