Hiram "Purdie" Edge

Hiram “Purdie” Edge, of Supply, NC formerly of Elizabethtown, passed away on Thursday, July 25, 2024, while at Lower Cape Fear Lifecare in Bolivia, NC at the age of 89. He was born and raised in Bladen County the son of the late Elemuel Purdie Edge and Nina Dona Davis.

 Purdie was preceded in death by his wives, Ouinda McLemore Edge and Jean Gooden, one brother Paul Edge and one sister Agnes Edge Kothe. Left to cherish his memory are sons, Tony Edge (John) of Holden Beach, Michael Suggs of Fayetteville, stepdaughter Kathy “Tobie” Best (Jay) of Raleigh, brothers John W. Edge, Jerry Edge, sisters Hellen E. Ellery, Frances E. Hill, Linda E. Stephens, and Gloria A. Taque, step grandchildren Marc Best (Emily), Lewis Best, Emily Best McArn and Samuel Best (Savannah), four step great grandchildren James, Ruth, Judah and Zion, 13 nephews and four nieces.

 Purdie was a compassionate man who loved the outdoors. He enjoyed working with the cattle on the farm, fishing, hunting and traveling to the mountains in Western North Carolina. His legacy of love and determination will live on in the hearts and lives of all that knew him.

 The family will receive friends from 1-2 pm on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at Bladen Gaskins Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. A graveside service will be held at 2:30 pm in the Briar Branch Baptist Church Cemetery in Elizabethtown.
