Howard Stanley Storms, 85, of Bladenboro passed away Thanksgiving Day, November 24, 2016 after a valiant battle with multiple myeloma. Born in Bladen County on March 27, 1931, he was the son of the late Woodie and Laura Dell Storms. He retired from the North Carolina Highway Patrol Garage in Elizabethtown after 32 years of service.
Preceding Mr. Storms in death was his beloved wife of 61 years, Elma Grey Phelps Storms. He is survived by two daughters: Amelia Hopkins and husband, Barry of Greensboro, NC and Joy Grady and husband, Gary of White Lake, NC; two granddaughters: Ann-Marie Grady Parker and husband John of Southern Shores, NC and Ryan Elizabeth Grady of Raleigh, NC. One great granddaughter: Margaret Grey Parker (Maggie).
Mr. Storms was an older brother of a large, extended family. He is survived by sisters, Sara West, Annette Grimes, Nancy Buchanan, Patsy Green, Linda Rising, and brother Eugene Storms. He was preceded in death by sister, Mildred Hilburn, and brothers, Harry Wade Storms and Weldon Storms.
Survivors also include his special friend, Geneva Mayes.
A celebration of life and memorial service will be held Sunday, November 27, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Bladenboro, NC. A family visitation will follow the memorial service in the church fellowship hall.
The Storms Family extends its appreciation to the staff of Glen Flora of Lumberton, NC for their kind and loving care. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Bladenboro.
