Iris Smith

Iris “Marlene” Smith, 85, of Fayetteville passed away on Wednesday, August 7, 2019. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gilbert and Iris Edge, husband Dew Bell Smith, two sisters, Jean Tew and Judy Gray Edge, one granddaughter, Melissa Ray and infant Zachary Ray. Marlene leaves behind one son, Ernie Smith (Patsy) of Stedman, two daughters, Darlene Culclasure (Otis) of St. Matthews, SC; Gloria Lewis (Phil) of Live Oak; seven grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild on the way.

Marlene loved her family especially the grandbabies. She was a true Christian lady that enjoyed gospel music. She endured the dreaded disease of Alzheimer’s for the last 10 years but is now free with the Lord in her heavenly home. Marlene will be missed by all that knew and loved her.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2019 at 11:00 am in Suggs Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in White Oak, NC. Rev. Walter Hayes will be officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Baptist children’s Odum home, 200 South Odom St., Pembroke, NC 28372.
