Jack Thompson

January 19, 1925 — May 9, 2006

Jack Thompson of 7966 Twisted Hickory Road, Bladenboro, died Tuesday, May 9, 2006 at Bladen County Hospital. He was 81 years old.



Mr. Thompson was a deacon and member of Oak Grove Original Free Will Baptist Church. He was in the civilian conservation corp from the age of 15 until he was 17. While he was with the civilian conservation corp he helped to build bridges and dams.



When Jack was 18, he entered into the US Army. He was wounded in Germany and was in the hospital from December 1945 until January 1946 when he was medically discharged.



Jack began working with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol after he returned home to Bladenboro. He retired in January 1986 after 38 years.



He was preceded in death by his first wife of 43 years, Clara Davis Thompson; and his parents, Sheb and Addie Thompson of Bladen County.



He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Rebecca (Becky) Thompson; three children, Bonnie Thompson of Supply, Patricia Edge of White Oak, and Jack Arnold Thompson of Evergreen; two brothers, Stanley Thompson of Leland and Billy Thompson of Bladenboro; three sisters, Lois Cheshire of Bladenboro, Gold Moore of Kernersville, and Lillian Faye Quick of Cheraw, South Carolina; four step-children; seven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.



The visitation will be from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m., Thursday, May 11, at Bladen Funeral Home and Cremations, Elizabethtown.



The funeral will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Friday, May 12, at Oak Grove Original Free Will Baptist Church, Bladenboro with Rev. Larry Greenwood officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Original Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery.
